End-of-Life Care Practitioner ProgramADDITIONAL COURSE ELEMENTS
Fieldwork
FieldworkParticipants are required to complete 150 hours of supervised End-of-Life care during the term of the course. Fieldwork may be associated with a hospice/palliative care program or related healthcare provider in one's local community. The commitment may be met through volunteer service or, if applicable, through the participants' professional work. The intent is to encourage direct application of the training through hands-on experience with clients and their support systems. This facet of the program supports participants in developing working relationships with a network of local service providers. Mentoring/AdvisingThe program provides regular mentoring sessions by telephone with the co-leaders, focusing on psychological and spiritual development and integrating learning. In addition, small group calls facilitated by program graduates assist in community-building, navigating the course, and applying the material in participants' local communities and organizations. JournalEach participant keeps a dream journal and compiles a binder with regular entries on coursework, client contacts, spiritual practice, and field visit reports. The compilation serves as an invaluable reference tool in creating and delivering post-training services. Field VisitsIt is important that EOL Care Practitioners are familiar with the settings in which the majority of people die. During the term of the course all participants are required to make a field visit to each of the following locations:
Field visits and short written reports are due to be completed by August 1, 2007. |
